Second Saturday Staten Island Art Walk (2013-2015)

Melissa West was a curator for Second Saturdays from 2012-2015 and the Organizing Director from 2013-2015. During that time, West provided a platform for local Staten Island artists to have their work featured in galleries and non-traditional performance venues.

The mission of Second Saturdays is to facilitate a working partnership between artists, curators, galleries, audiences and local businesses to promote a more engaged community. More videos can be seen here.

thingNY at Art Lab (2014)

The New Yorker’s Alex Ross listed thingNY as part of the city’s burgeoning avant-garde classical music scene “striking an attitude of resistance to mainstream culture.” Comprised of composer-performers from the NYC metro area, thingNY creates and performs theatrically charged experimental music and collaborative fluxus-esque multimedia works, which have included collaboratively created operas, a radio play by Beckett, and over a hundred premieres of new music.

This program was featured as part of Second Saturday’s Summer Series, funded by the Citizens Committee for NYC.
